What's a Fan pit?

On concerts.

It can't be a mosh pit, because Depeche Mode had one, and they don't have any moshin' songs.

I think its something like a VIP section near the front of the stage - you know, the places little girls piss themselves when the Jonas Brothers come out. But I'm not sure, sorry. lol.
